Quality Assurance
Plastic has been accepted as a durable, reliable and trustworthy
material for use in hundreds of thousands of applications.
It’s safe, clean and can be recycled with minimal
environmental impact. Many of the products that have become
an important part of our lifestyles contain plastic –
including easy-care clothing, televisions, computer equipment,
furniture, medical devices and sports equipment.
In just a few decades, consumers have come to consider the
extraordinary properties of plastics as nothing out of the
ordinary. Plastics’ popularity and wide usage can
be attributed to one basic fact – the range of properties
and design technologies that plastics offer.
In fact, without plastics it would be virtually impossible
for our homes to operate. Without plastics there would be
no wiring (cable, telephone or electric) because there would
be no protective vinyl sleeves to prevent corrosion, leaks,
shorts, etc. There would be no switches or outlets, fewer
fixtures, no lamps and no electrical appliances –
not even a telephone!
Plastics have become an essential part in the construction
of today’s homes and commercial buildings. Many items
used in everyday construction owe their existence to plastics
– including siding, soffits, exterior trim and moulding,
gutters, downspouts, pipes and plumbing fixtures. Plastics
are also used in no-wax vinyl flooring, stain-resistant
carpeting, mar-resistant countertops and cabinets, sinks,
tub surrounds and shower stalls. Add vinyl windows and doors
to this list and it becomes evident what a large role plastics
can have in our building and remodeling decisions.
In the new construction market, vinyl is a product “whose
time has come” for windows and doors. Vinyl is fast
approaching a dominant market position in replacement and
remodeling projects. And, vinyl windows and doors are experiencing
tremendous growth in the new construction market due to
new energy code requirements, N.F.R.C. work, the rising
prices and decreasing availability of lumber, and increasing
consumer demand for better quality, low-maintenance products.
Vinyl has been used as a window product in the United States
for over 25 years, and even longer in Europe. Vinyl windows
and doors are durable, weather-resistant, and require little
maintenance. As a result, they are the product of choice
for many homeowners, builders and architects. .
